Hyperbolic varieties were introduced by Shamovich and Vinnikov as a generalization of hyperbolic polynomials. They are defined as projective varieties admitting a linear finite projection, surjective onto some projective space, that have the property that only real points are mapped to real points. In the talk we will address topological and geometric properties of these varieties.
