Isoperimetric models for charged liquid drops

Abstract: 

We consider an isoperimetric model describing the equilibrium shape of a liquid charged drop. The resulting functional contains an attracting term, modeled by the perimeter, and a repulsive term depending on the amount of charge and the electrostatic capacity of the drop. We show that in general the resulting variational problem is ill-posed. We then consider several modifications of it and we investigate existence, uniqueness and stability results.
