Abstract:

In differential geometry, a minimal submanifold may be characterizedin terms of the embedding coordinates, by demanding them to beharmonic. We aim to generalize this concept to a noncommutativesetting where we study analogues of minimal surfaces in Euclideanspace. In particular, we generalize the classical Weierstrassrepresentation formula, which provides a way to explicitly generateinfinite classes of noncommutative minimal surfaces, as well as givinga complete characterization of minimal surfaces in three dimensionalspace. At the end, I will report on work in progress concerningproperties of a noncommutative catenoid. Venue:  Department of Mathematics, Trieste University.Seminar Room - Third Floor bld H3bis
