Abstract:

Fluctuation relations, i.e. constraints on the statistics of fluctuating observables that hold true arbitrarily far from equilibrium, have been discovered in the last three decades in many different settings (deterministic/stochastic, classical/quantum, transient/stationary). Prominent examples are the Gallavotti-Cohen fluctuation theorem and the Jarzynski identity.
In this talk, I will first give an introduction to the theory of open quantum systems, that are quantum systems interacting with an external environment and evolving in time with a non-unitary dynamics. Then, I will discuss the so-called two-point-measurement protocol, that is used to operatively define the stochastic observables of interest. Finally, I will present some fluctuation relations that can be derived in this framework.
