Abstract:
Dynamic mode decomposition (DMD) is a equation-free model reduction that allows to approximate the evolution of a complex system as the combination of low-rank structures evolving linearly in time. In this seminar, we provide a theoretical overview of the method and discuss about its limitations and capabilities. Finally, we present the results collected applying the DMD firstly on a toy dataset then on numerical data coming from a naval simulation, where the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations had be approximated using a finite volume method.
