Abstract:
The seminar aims to give some intuition into the theory of GIT quotients developed by Mumford, considering a specific example.
The moduli space of semi-stable hypersurfaces is a natural compactification of the moduli of smooth hypersurfaces and it is realized as a GIT quotient. Stability and semi-stability conditions are obtained by means of the Hilbert-Mumford criterion.
