Abstract:

Title: Flexible robots and snakes

Abstract: Moving without arms and legs seems like an impossible task, but snakes are actually able to do so. This remarkable capability comes from the material properties of their bodies and the frictional forces they are able to exert on the substate they are moving on. In this talk will present a mathematical model describing snake and snake-like robot locomotion, explain the theoretical basis of its formulation, and discuss the physical understanding of the phenomenon it provides.

This seminar is part of the AJS series of seminars.
