Abstract:

This talk focuses on numerical stabilization to alleviate the spuriousoscillations generally produced by full order models (FOMs) inmarginally-resolved simulations of convection-dominated incompressibleflows. These simulations can be unbearable in terms of computationaltime. Thus, reduced order models (ROMs) can be an asset to solve them ina smaller amount of time. Specifically, we investigate whether theevolve-filter-relax (EFR) numerical stabilization is needed both at theFOM and the ROM level.Indeed, one can apply two ROM strategies:(i) the EFR-noEFR, in which the EFR stabilization is used at the FOMlevel and not at the ROM level.(ii) The EFR-EFR, in which the EFR stabilization is used both at the FOMand at the ROM level. We perform model reduction with respect to both time and Reynoldsnumber. The reconstructive and predictive numerical tests deal with 2Dincompressible flow past a circular cylinder. The experiments suggestthat FOM-ROM consistency is beneficial in the proposed setting.
